Donald was 28 when he married 7.7.1881 at Kildalton Anne Morrison born circa 1856 daughter of Dugald Morrison and Anne Sinclair. I got the details of their marriage from their son's birth certificate so I used that date to give me their parents names. >From the 1891 Census I found a shepherd named Donal McTaggart with his family all under the age of nine years, Dugald, Archibald, John, Alexander and Thomas with him is a sister-in-law named Catherine Morrison so that sort of fitted. Catherine could be Anne Morrisons sister, however she has a daughter named Euphemia with her so she may be a sister-in-law of Anne Morrison. Your comments please. Now, John MacTaggart born 30.5.1884 Kildalton came out to South Africa to fight in the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902 but to avoid being sent back to Scotland with the rest of the troops, changed his name to John Morrison (maiden name of mother) John worked as an engineer on a mine outside Bulawayo where he married in 1914 in Bulawayo, Rhodesia Annie Dick Kirkland born 1885 daughter of John Kirkland and Jane Dick who in turn were married in 1879 at Kilchoman. John and Annie had five boys one of whom now eighty-five, says one of the brothers Alexander owned the Pub, another worked at the Power Station and the third thinks perhaps Tom emigrated to Canada, there was only one sister. The family returned to Islay on several occasions once indicating Port Charlotte as their destination. I thought the names of their five boys John, Dugald, (so named after both maternal and paternal grandfathers) David, Ken and Alistair Donal just may be a clue to John's Uncles as I must admit I don't know a lot about Scottish naming paterns. These five lads started an Engineering firm in Rhodesia. I would like to make contact with anyone who recognises this family.
