    3. Some information for BUIE/SINCLAIR/SPENCE researchers. Ann Sinclair and Archibald Buie were married Jul 16, 1840, Kilarrow Parish, Islay and Charles Spence married Janet Buie Mar 15, 1836 in the same Parish. The 1841 census for Tallant Farm, Killarow Parish lists under the surname "Bowie", John, aged 60, Merchant Seaman, Janet, 55, Margaret 30, Mary 18, Cirsty 15 and John 8, Roeger Shaw 8 and NK 5 months. Cirsty may have married Neil Darroch who also settled in Arran Twp, Bruce Co,ON. Was John Buie's wife's maiden name Janet Livingston? Are there any other children of John and Janet Buie? Best that I can tell John Buie married 1820 or 1810 and Anne Buie married 1840. Their neighbours Neil Darroch lived on Concession 4 lot 21 but I couldn't find any land records for the Buies in that vincinity I also checked for a will but I couldn't find one. In Port Elgin Times Oct 12 1892 edition under Burgoyne news: Early on Saturday morning Mrs Charles Spence died at the residence of her daughter Mrs Dugald McLean. She was a native of Argyleshire and lived in Arran for 40 years. 3. Hi all, Someone on the Sinclair list just sent me the lyrics to Donovan's song. (I have to admit, I don't remember hearing it). Does anyone know if he has a connection to the Leitch's of Islay? ISLE OF ISLAY (Words and Music by Donovan Leitch) How high the gulls fly o'er Islay. How sad the farm lad deep in play. Felt like a grain on your sand. How well the sheep's bell music makes. Rovin' the cliff when fancy takes. Felt like the tide left me here. How blest the forest with birds' song. How neat the cut peat laid so long. Felt like a seed on your land. (Instrumental) How high the gulls fly o'er Islay. How sad the farm lad deep in play. Felt like the tide left me here. 3. Hi Heather: Much of the information on the list dates before the birth of your grandmother. You will find on my website information on those born, married or died up to 1875. If you come back with information on your g grandparents and or gg grandparents the list and the sources on the list will be most helpful. The website is at HTTP://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~tlarson/bdm/ Ted Larson - List Administrator H THOMSON wrote: >Just started subscribing and I thought I would introduce myself. I'm based in Edinburgh, Scotland and have been tracing my family tree for about 15 years. My granny was Ann Gilchrist born in Bowmore in 1899. Most of my information is between 1800 and now (about 200 people) and contains siblings as well as direct descendents. I'll post again with more information in the next few weeks. 3. re Peter McLellan and Janet Ferguson hello list and Carol I was in touch with Carol a while ago regarding the Ferguson family and I have a lot of information about Peter McLellan and Janet Ferguson. Janet is the sister of Mary Ferguson, my gr gr grandmother. I will contact you again Carol. Peter Mclellan remained in Islay and died 7 June 1880 at Gruilen age 83 according to death record. He was the son of Robert McLellan and Margaret McNeill. I have his census records. His son John McLellan was at Torrandarrach in 1881 and Janet his widow was still at Torrandarrach in 1891. Janet died at Gruilen 18 November 1893. 3. Hello Catherine: It's wonderful to touch base with you again. Thanks so much for getting in touch with me. I realize now why I couldn't find Janet Ferguson or her husband Peter McLellan's deaths on the Excel List of Islay deaths (the list ends at 1875). Janet Ferguson and Mary Ferguson were sisters to my gr. gr. grandfather Archibald Ferguson. Slowly the information is coming together and I wish I had more time to spend looking for accurate proof of who the other siblings in this family were. Next week I'm back to being immersed in the work world with only a few minutes each day to glance at the Islay list. Thanks again to Steve and Ted and all those who have spent so much of their own time to help distant cousins find each other as without this list I'm sure I would never have met Catherine. Regards, Carol Kewley PS: I think a lot of the people on this list are related to each other ...too bad there wasn't an easier way to determine those facts.

    3. Happy New Year to all list members. I finally have some free time and have been rechecking the Islay website. On Ted Larson's (or Monta Salmon's) Islay Marriages Excel file 1855- 1875 I see the following entry. Marriage Date: 04-Jan-1872. Kilchoman Parrish, Church of Scotland Groom: Robert McLellan, age 28 Bride: Ann Ferguson, age 23 Groom's Parents: Peter McLellan, Janet Ferguson Bride's Parents: John Ferguson, Kate McNiven I am interested in finding information about the Groom's Parents, Peter McLellan and Janet Ferguson. Did Peter and Janet remain on Islay? I believe their date of marriage was 23-Apr-1833 in Kilchoman Parrish. I have not seen a record of either of their deaths in the Excel Islay files. As well, I would like to hear from anyone connected to the Bride's Parents. If anyone connects with any of the above families I would appreciate hearing from you. 2. Hi List: I actually have a few minutes so I did a WorldCat search for the Peat...book and turned up a diary written by Elizabeth (Wallace) Judd 1846-1915. The diary's supposed to be the Eldon area abt 1870 I guess. 3 Canadian libraries appear to be the only owners. It was published by Phelps Publ, London ON- couldn't turn up anything about them. Anyone seen or heard of this one? My folks were in Eldon/Mariposa in 1881- Fenelon 1871. There are actually a few copies of the Peat book in the US so I think I'll have a chance at getting it interlibrary. Thanks! Happy New Year! Carolyn
