    3. Hi Listers I have been spending way too much time (and money) at the Scotlands People site the last year and have been thinking that every time I print off a page of registrations or census there is more there that could be shared. Not having followed the list as closely as I would have liked I am unaware if you have been doing that. But here goes DEATHS - 1882/1883 DISTRICT OF KILDALTON & OA James McCuaig (or McLeod) - husband of Margaret McGill (or Cargyle I have found)- age 93 - son of Peter McCuaig and Anne McDougall Margaret McPherson - wife of Donald McPherson - age 64 - daughter of Duncan Johnstone and Catherine McIntyre Peggy Campbell - illegitimate, single, age 10 hours - daughter of Dugald Campbell and Peggy Bell DEATHS 1894 PARISH OF KILCHOMAN Margaret McCuaig - widow of James McCuaig - age 78 (actually older) - daughter of Neil MacGill and Ann MacIntyre Euphemia MacEachern - widow of Angus MacEachern = age 77 = daughter of Charles Ferguson and Catherine Maclean Robert Sproule = age 1 day - son of Robert John Sproule and Laura Ivens? DEATHS 1928 DISTRICT OF KILCHOMAN Anne McCuaig - single - age 100 (actually a little younger) daughter of James McCuaig and Margaret McGill (or Cargyle) John Shaw - husband of Betsy McLean - age 82 - son of Malcolm Shaw and Catherine McLean Duncan McKerrell - widower of Betsy McEachern - age 73 - son of Duncan McKerrell and Mary MacDougall If you would like more details of any of the above please e-mail me off list Monta Salmon in windy southern Alberta (Canada)

    3. Hi Jane, Oban is most certainly on the mainland. Given that it is a fairly large town, I'd think it was its own parish. Have you searched scotlanddspeople? It costs a few dollars but, if there is a record of his birth (and sometimes there is not), that would settle it. Good luck, Dixie > On various documents I have relating to one of my ancestors Francis > Kean/Kane, it states that he was born in Bowmore but I can find no other > records for this. 1. Fw: CURRIE- AUS Surnames List
    2. Carol Rowe
    3. Hello List, I've received a wee bit more information on Christine Cooper's Curries, but I suspect that it won't get me anywhere. Does anybody know of a John Currie and Ann Moir marriage? Carol Rowe (Currie) ----- Original Message ----- From: christine cooper To: 'Carol Rowe' Sent: Sunday, January 29, 2006 2:52 AM Subject: RE: CURRIE- AUS Surnames List Hi Carol Thank you for your email and the information on Islay. I haven't got too far with the Currie side of the family yet. I've been digging in other family branches for a couple of years and am a member of the Western Australian Genealogy Society which has given me some good leads so far, but the Curries are a bit more difficult. A biography has been written about my aunt (Charmian Clift) which includes some info about my Curries, but so far I have not been able to verify it. My family was quite good at embroidering their stories, so I like to check things out. This is a quote from the book The Life and Myth of Charmian Clift by Nadia Wheatley; 'Amy's father James Currie, came of Scottish farming stock. His father John Currie was 'fiery' according to family tales, while his mother Anne (nee Moir) appears to have been a kind and hardworking woman. James was born in 1863 at Mungle Creek, New South Wales, but soon his parents moved to Queensland, where more children were born. By the 1880's the family had returned to New South Wales and bought a dairy farm at Inverell, where there was a sizeable and clannish Scottish community.' I have copy of James and Sarah Carson's marriage cert but it doesn't give parents' names. This was a marriage where the bride was very obviously pregnant and there probably wasn't too much parental support - not even names of witnesses. It gives James occupation as a coachbuilder. I cannot spot James' birth cert on NSW BMD and am unsure of the date of his death, although my mother remembered him, so he was alive in the 1920's, possibly 30's. I hope there is a connection here somewhere. It would be great to find a distant cousin down the Currie line. Regards Chris ----- ----- Original Message ----- From: christine cooper To: carolrowe@iprimus.com.au Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2006 1:00 AM Subject: CURRIE- AUS Surnames List Hi Carol I have just spotted your 'Currie' interest on the AUS Surnames list. My grandmother was Amt Lila Currie from Inverell. Her parents were James Archibald (born Mungle Creek in 1863) and Sarah Carson. Do these fit with the Curries that you are researching? Regards Chris

    3. Hi There folks, Having seen all the differentvbariants for some names posted on this list, has anyone ever come across a variation of the female name Alithea? It's not a Scottish family, but everyone seems to like a challenge on this list so I wondered if anyone could help, I'm looking for this lady in the 1851 Census, she was born in Herefordshire, and the 1861 Census has her happily married to a George Jones (born c 1832), I have an 1864 birth certificate which gives her maiden name as Alithea Henner, but I can't find her in the 1851 census under either name, so my assumption is that either the numerator didn't put it down right (which is going to cause real problems) or it is under another name, or she never got recorded .... Any ideas??

    3. Hi Christine and Mary I saw Mary's post. The dates indicate to me that my Archibald CURRIE, b. 13 Nov 1763, and Mary (Flory) McQUEEN, b. 16 Jun 1770, and married ABT 1803, are not the same people that Mary is looking for. Too bad. I've seen others complain that there were too many Archibald CURRIEs on Islay. This Mary (Flory) McQUEEN was my Archibald's second wife. His first, Agnes McLELLAND, died on or just before 18 Jun 1803, giving birth to John CURRIE, b. 18 Jun 1803. Mary (FLORY) then bore Malcolm CURRIE, b. 25 Feb 1807, and Hugh CURRIE, b. 12 Nov 1812, both at Baliharvie, Kilmeny, Islay. Malcolm lived on the 5 acre lots at Duntroon where he married first Elizabeth (Betsey) McDIARMID, b. about 1811 on Islay, who died giving birth to Laughlin CURRIE, b. 1838 in Nottawasaga Twp., Simcoe Co., Ontario. He then married Mary McDOUGALL, b. 03 Nov 1815 at Baolach (?), Kilarrow Parish, Islay. Their fourth child was Flora who married Robert George CAMPBELL. Their second child was Malcolm, who's only child was Robert George, who's only child was Malcolm, me. There's a pattern there. More details on request. I have my Archibald as a tenant on Gorbas. My Mary (Flora) McQUEEN immigrated to Canada with her sons Malcolm, John and Hugh. She died in Oro Twp., Simcoe Co., Ontario. Her sons moved her body to Nottawasaga Twp., Simcoe Co., after they became established there. Christine. I hadn't realized that we are 5th cousins!!!
