    1. RE: McLELLAN Researchers - Need Help
    2. Pamela J. Nixon
    3. Dear Listers: Searching the 1851 census on Scotland's People, I have found FLORY MCINTYRE, age 26, unmarried (daughter of my 4XGGP DONALD MCINTYRE and MARY MCINTYRE nee MCEWEN) listed as a visitor in KILCHIARAN, KILCHOMAN, ISLAY with JOHN MCLELLAN and MARY MCLELLAN nee MCINTYRE. I found a marriage entry for John and Mary on Ted Larson's site as 8 Feb 1848 in Kilchoman Parish. As I know DONALD MCINTYRE was deceased sometime before 1856, FLORY may have been sent to other family members as her brother's ARCHIBALD (my 3XGGF), JAMES and NEIL were off on their own by that time. I suspect MARY MCLELLAN nee MCINTYRE may be DONALD MCINTYRE' s sibling. Would like to exchange info with anyone with this JOHN MCLELLAN of KILCHIARAN who may have any further information on MARY MCLELLAN nee MCINTYRE. 3. Hi all, The site Marjorie mentioned has a boat New Swiftsure which left Quebec for Montreal on Aug. 26, 1819 carrying immigrants who had sailed from Oban on the Harmony and the Hope. The list includes many possible Islay names such as Blue, Gilles, McLean, Sinclair, Ferguson, Morrison, etc. I also noticed another summer 1819 trip up which included several McCuaigs and McLeods. Cheers, Don

    3. Dear List: I have a request to make for some help with my brick wall. I have traced a John Mitchell married to Flora Campbell to Greenock where Flora died in 1878 at 51 Crawford St. According to the 1881 Census her husband, John Mitchell born Islay age 77 was living with his son, Alexander, born Islay, and daughter-in-law Janet (Allan) born Greenock, at 47 Crawford St. West, Greenock. I have been unable to find this family on the 1891 Census and so far have not found a death for John. Does anyone on the list have access to street directories for the area, and if so, could you possible do a lookup for me so that I at least know when they left Greenock. I have not found John's death in Greenock on Scotlandspeople and it is gettng a little expensive chasing every John Mitchell!. Regards Janet, Ontario I was wondering if there was anyone on this list who could help me locate the death of the following person: --------------------------------- 7 bucks a month. 2. Iain & Margaret MacIntosh
    3. Hi Dee We have six Mary McNeills in our database born abt 1830 and there are a number of possibilities, but no certainties. (always the case, isn't it?) The Mary McNeill who married Donald Gillespie is only noted as having been born in Kilchoman Parish, and married Donald at Kindrachad on 20 May 1833. This information came from macgillespie, I think. I have it marked 'Still to be verified', though. It does say she had been born at Kindrachad, though, which opens up other possibilities? -------- Donald GILLESPIE (13761), b. circa / /1810 at Kilchoman Parish +Mary MCNEILL (13762), b. circa / /1810 at Kilchoman Parish, m. 20/5/1833 at Kindrachad, Kilchoman Parish Mary GILLESPIE (13968), b. 20/7/1834 at Kilnave, Kilchoman Parish John GILLESPIE (13906), b. 23/8/1836 at Kilnave, Kilchoman Parish Ann GILLESPIE (13763), b. 22/6/1838 at Kilnave, Kilchoman Parish Margaret GILLESPIE (13927), b. 18/8/1840 at Kilnave, Kilchoman Parish -------- The entry in Ted's transcription shows the following group which could be the mother McNeill aged 60 & son Neil with daugh-in-law, or conversely, her son & daughter, Mary, but Mary being born before 1811. (The farm name was possibly Torronich Farm - for 'Torr-rainich' meaning Fernyhill.(later called Torony) which was on the hill on the right hand side of the road from Port Charlotte to Portnahaven near Craigfad. There were 9 families on it in the 1841 census according to information from the Museum of Islay Life. ) 1841 Census RD540 P. 22 - Kilchoman Parish (Ted's transcription) Kilchoman 397 22 Tonomick Farm Neil McNeill Male 30 Cottage Labourer ARL Kilchoman 397 22 Tonomick Farm Mary McNeill Female 60 ARL Kilchoman 397 22 Tonomick Farm Mary McNeill Female 30 ARL My McAllister and McNeill lines had links with Torroney where my GGgrandparents were married. There was a Mary in my line, born 1838 that I have not yet linked to a husband and who could be a possibility. Again with OPR marriages, no information was given about parents : Donald MCNEILL (134), b. / /1740 +Catherine SHAW (135), b. / /1760, m. circa / /1780, d. at Nerabus Neil MCNEILL (130), b. / /1782 at Kilchoman, d. 5/2/1858 at Port Wemyss, bur. 5/2/1858 at Nerabus Cemetery, Nerabus, Portnahaven ³ +Catherine MCFARLANE (131), b. / /1802 at Claddach, Portnahaven, m. / /1821, d. 15/9/1871 at Port Wemyss, Portnahaven ³ ³ Mary MCNEILL (148), b. 12/10/1838 at Wemysshaven, Portnahaven If you want any further information, please don't hesitate to contact me. 3. Malcolm, The family info I have on our McDougalls says they came over on the Albany (in 1831 if I remember correctly). After seeing this on The Albion, I'm wondering if the ship they crossed over on was actually the Albion and not Albany. What do you think? Guess we'll have to wade through all those Google hits for the Albion! 3. The site http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/Arrivals/ships1834.html has a listing of ships, including the Donegal. It states the Donegal arrived in Quebec city Aug. 8, 1834, Captain Hodgson, left June 11 from Maryport with 173 passengers. I think Maryport is in Cumbria, in the northwest of England. Volunteers are transcribing the passenger listings of the Molson ships that took people from Quebec to Montreal for the years 1819-1836. At present they are working on 1826, but it is well worth watching for further years. This section is accessed by clicking Passenger Lists at the top, then work your way down to the St. Lawrence Passenger Records. I hope to one day see the Islay emigrants who came out in 1834 listed.
