Hi Pamela Yes there was another exodus in the late 1840s and early 1850s. Many seemed to have gone to Ontario, Canada. My McCuaig, McCannel, Carmichael lines emigrated to Grey County in that time frame. Good Luck Sue Visser ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pamela J. Now I have another question. I know there was a population clearance on Islay in the 1830's. Did another big emigration from Islay occur during the 1850's? By the 1851 census, my DONALD MCINTYRE is deceased. His wife MARY (ms MCEWEN) is with the before mentioned JOHN and MARY MCLELLAN on Gearach farm, Kilchoman Parish. Daughter FLORY MCINTYRE and son NEIL are on Kilchiaran Farm, Kilchoman: FLORY with a JOHN MCLELLAN, age 70 and wife MARY, age 48 (ms MCINTYRE possible Aunt) and NEIL with ADAM and ELIZABETH RALSTON. I have been unable to match any further information on these three family members from Scotland's People i.e. no marriages or death certs or census data so I am thinking they may have emigrated to somewhere else. Anyone have any suggestions possible emigration locations? In lieu of descendants of E.Jennings,is there a descendant of one of the seven Beaton Sisters who could give me permission to put on a web site, the names of the sisters, the names of their husbands and descendants from the book. There has since been some additional information, mostly in the form of dates and places, that can be added. Are there any of the descendants who would object to having this information put on a web site? It would be through Rootsweb, and very similar to my own web site below, GEDCOM formation. Hi List, Would anyone have a new e-mail address for a Janet McCartney? She was researching Dallas, McGregor, Gillespie and McNeill families back in 2000. Thank you, Dee
Talking about HLW and also FWK(Framework knitter) reminded me of the weavers who steeped the wool in aged urine to take the grease out of the wool. Everybody was asked to contribute to the container holding the urine-visitors and all. Occupations of 'pickler' and 'pickle bunger' are self explanatory I suppose, but what did they pickle in Scotland in the 1850's? Celia.
Hi Celia My guess would be meat or fish. Pam This is from the Talkingscot web site regarding occupations on the 1841 census. Hand Loom Weavers.---H.L.W. Always add H.L.W. to each person engaged in Hand-Loom Weaving, after the words Silk, Cotton, &c. as the case may be.

John, Sorry, but I don't think so. James and Margaret immigrated to North Carolina, USA, in 1819. We have not located ship records for them, but we thnk that all of thier children came with them because the 1820 census indicates as much. There is a Presbyterian minister by the same name in Selma Alabama in 1850, but we have not been able to connect him yet. Another possiblity is that he died at a young age. We have visited the gravesites of James and Margaret and there appears to be several unmarked graves nearby. Malcom's sister, Flora, is our McNabb connection. By the way, Malcom was born 30 June 1806 and christened 4 July 1806. Is there anyone on the list that could give me help looking for Charles McFee (b) 1747 and married to Catherine Campbell (m) 1768?
Am trying to trace Charles McFee b 1747 Islay, Argyllshire and married Catherine Campbell (M)1768.
Can anyone help? I have a Kilchoman family called McDuffie on my system, and have found a death for, it seems,a member of that family, but called McPhee. Were the names interchangeable, or evolved from McDuffie to McFee.. Or simply yet another co-incidence? Death Neil McPhee, Shepherd Widower of Margaret Smith January 5 1895 Sunderland po Kilchoman Age 80 years old age NC Father Donald McPhee, Ploughman Mother Catherine McNiven Son Alexander inf.
