    1. surnames list credit
    2. Allison Vidal
    3. Good Morning, Johan has very kindly filled in my memory gap for the other person who did the heavy lifting on the surnames list - Iain MacIntosh. Iain, thanks very much for all the effort, it has certainly been very fruitful for me and for my new found cousin. Without that lookup source with accurate email contact information, who knows when/if we would have connected! Best wishes, Allison

    3. Welcome back Allison, So good to hear a success story as a result of the surnames list. Iain MacIntosh did most of the hard work, so credit to him. 1. Return to List - Dick Family Connection
    2. Allison Vidal
    3. Hello All, I have been absent from the list due to our relocating from Florida to Virginia. It's good to have that done! Now my genealogy research can continue! I want to say another thank you to those who compiled the surnames search database from last winter's roll call (Johan and someone else, sorry, cannot remember/find)! As a result of that list, a DICK family researcher contacted me and it does turn out that we are related. Our great grandmothers were sisters on Islay. I am simply delighted! It has been wonderful to connect and share information - this is the first living DICK relative with whom I have had the good fortune to correspond. Doors are opening and information is flowing! How marvelous! The wonders of cyber genealogy.... Hope all of you are well, Allison Vidal now Madison/Aroda Virginia, USA

    3. Mistake. Sarah and fmily are definitely Islay. Charles and Daniel come to Upper Canada with a group from Renfrew, but some were Islay. Alexander "peot" was bron at Bridge-of-Johnson. Margaret

    3. I am trying to see if there is a connection between Sarah McLachlan, wife of Alexander McKechnie, died at sea, as the family consisting of John (died at Quebec) Donald b. 1814, Neil b. 1813, Christine b. 1832 and 3 other girls, in l833 and Charles died N.Y. 1830 and Daniel 1785-1887 both of who came to Caledon Twp. (Rockside) in 1820. Charles son, Alexander "poet" McLachlan married his cousin Clemina, daughter of Daniel. Alexander and his mother came later than the above. Daniel is buried in the White Church cemetery in Erin Twp. on the town line. Margaret

    3. Claude: Perhaps we can explore this a little further. My gggrandfather Malcolm McMillan was married to Margaret.McAllister/McIndeor. His family left Islay in 1848. Supposedly Malcolm died just before the family departed and his wife Margaret died on board during the trip. 2. Jim Loudon
    3. I'd like to second Les's plea. In addition to the problems Les mentioned, the no header/digest header messages really make a mess of the archives. I'd also like to put in a plug to minimize the amount of quoted material in postings (if you're including more than a line or two, you're quoting excessively), especially on the fourth or fifth reply. It simply isn't necessary, and is a mark of poor netiquette. Also (again), it makes the archives less useful to those who follow. Thanks, jim

    2. Les Horn
    3. Hi Listers Could I make a plea. Please DON'T send postings without a subject. As I receive postings in Digest form, from a number of Lists, it means I have to open those without a subject to see what they refer to. Where I receive e-mails in List form my Filter consigns anything without a subject to the Deleted Items bin and unless I scan this, rather defeating the object of my Filter, I'm going to miss items. Also please don't use the Digest reference as the Subject. Many thanks Les

    2. Marjorie McQuay
    3. In Mary O'Brien's book about the settlement of Shanty Bay in Oro, she mentioned there were two or three highland children baptized at the same time as their son Henry. The original records are with St. James Cathedral Archives in Toronto, and the Toronto Diocese of the Anglican Church have the records on microfilm. The minister was Rev. Henry H. O'Neil. These are the three she mentions, I believe all Islay folk. John, son of Alexander and Mary Graham, born Feb. 19, 1836, bapt. 15 Aug. 1836 Marianne, daughter of William and marianne Gilchrist, born 21 Nov. 1835, bapt. 15 Aug. 1836 Archibald, son of Archibald and Flora McDougal, born 30 April 1836, bapt. 15 Aug. 1836. The day before, Rev. O'Neil also baptized Angus Cameron, son of Duncolm and Margaret Cameron, born 20 Feb. 1836. This is my family connection, and I'm sure they were from Lower Glenastle.
