    3. Basil, Great to have another McGilvray connection. I have been pursuing all of the Islay McGilvray lines in a WorldConnect project called McGillivrays of Islay which is at http://wc.rootsweb.com/~islaymcgillivray You will see that I have some information on William and Catherine Johnson and their family, but I am sure there is more you could add. I take William's father Donald back another generation to Donald McGilvray and Catherine McNiven. Please let me know if you have your tree anywhere on the Web as I can hyperlink to it from my WorldConnect database. 1. Islay trip
    2. Many thanks to those of you responded to our query about places to stay on Islay. We have rented a car, & found a B&B in Port Ellen called the"Trout Fly". Apparently there is a marathon of some sort going the same weekend we will be there--Aug. 5 & 6. If any of you are in the vicinity at that time would love to meet you! We are mainly researching Lamonts, Bells & Fergusons from Islay. The family went to Ontario, then North Dakota, Saskatchewan & places west. I have been out of the loop for quite some time (one of the "lurkers") but hope to get working on this again. I have John Ferguson b4/1821 Killinian m Catherine Bell b1/1836 Gerrach. I had been told this is the wrong Catherine Bell by someone so have hit a brick wall as her tombstone in ND has the dates. I think John & Catherine may have been married in Grey Cty Ontario 1856 but can't confirm. Their farm was in Wellington Cty & John is buried in Bethel Cem. If anyone is researching any of these families I would love to contact you. I am also researching MacMasters & Cooks from Isle of Arran. Will be visiting there as well, on our trip. If anyone has connections there, I have a lot on them Thanks again for help with the trip! Edie Ferguson

    3. I've been delving into the Johnston-On-Bridge puzzle, as I have a John Johnston from Renfrewshire who married an Islay girl, Marion Brown. I've found references to the same Johnston-On-Bridge or Bridge -Of Johnston in the November 2002 Islay Archives. John Johnston's father William Johnston lived in Renfrewshire, and there's a William Johnston mentioned in the early history of Bridge of Johnston. This is all hearsay, but I thought that it might help. Toni Sinclair contributed to the discussion in 2002. Carol Rowe (Currie)
