Thanks to a very kind soul, Elizabeth, some of the mysteries of my MacLean ancestors have been solved. Another, bigger question remains. My gr-gr-grandfather, Charles MacLean had a daughter, Margaret, by Christy Matheson in 1826. Next he had Lachlan (1828-31) and Jane (1831-33?). Their mother was supposedly a MacDonald but no record of their births/christenings have turned up. In 1833 he married Mary Morrison and had 5 more children, including another Jane. My gr-grandmother was Jane #1, daughter of the unknown MacDonald mother. Since they lived in Coillemore, I am wondering if there is some cemetery where they would all have been buried? Even if there were, they were probably too poor for a tombstone but might there be any other clue there? Desparately seeking my MacDonald gr-gr-grandmother, Marion Markham
