I would love to be able to spend some time at their Library. I haven't come across Flora Cameron yet, but she is undoubtedly related to me, as that is where my family comes from. As I understand the place names from the Highlands, every little cluster of a few familes had its own name. They usually were all related (descended from a common ancestor) and farmed communally (the "runrig" system). "Rathchinore" is undoubtedly "Rath thulach mor" or Ratullochmore - Every time I come across it I find a different spelling. Rathchinore is very close to the spelling that was used for that place in the 1841 Census (on-line on Bryan Keddy's website) - it was spelled differently again in the 1861 census. Ratullochmore (however it is spelled) was located near Glenfintaig, which was in, or near, Glen Gloy, which flows into Loch Lochy, just east of Spean Bridge. It is adjacent to Letterfinlay. The first family settled there was that of Donald (MacMartin) Cameron, a son of Duncan, Chieftan of the MacMartin Clan. (The MacMartins all, in time, changed their name to Cameron). His descendants were living there until they were evicted by Andrew Belford, after he purchased the Glenfintaig Estate. That was around 1850 - My GGGrandfather Angus Cameron, left there and came to Nova Scotia. Family tradition had it that we came from "Ratlick Moor", which we always assumed referred to a "Moor" or Barren area. Actually it was "Mor", the gaelic word for big, or large. The name, in Gaelic, (Rath thulach mor ) means "large hill mound". As far as which Fort James Marshall was stationed at - I would guess Fort William would be the most likely, as I believe the Lochaber area came under their jurisdiction - but Fort Augustus is not all that far off. Ratullochmore would be about 1/3 of the way from Fort William to Fort Augustus. My GGGGrandfather (Angus 'Mor' Cameron) was born around 1890 (My info is home, and I am writing from my office) - Flora could well be a sister or cousin of his. Congratulations on your findings, and Good Luck! John
