I have John Nicolson on the 1881 census living in Portree. It says he was born in Kilmuir in 1831 but the only birth I can find on the IGI in the right place is 1838. I understand his parents to be John Nicolson and Flora McDonald. (Their marriage on the IGI is 1874, so now I am well confused). John (born inthe 1830's sometime) was a fisherman and he married Peggy MacLeoad from Snizort in 1853. They had a few children, some of whom seemed to have stayed on Skye. Can anybody help me find out anything more about him and his ancestors?
