Hi Kurt, Thanks for responding to my query. I've only been doing research for the past month or so but I have found you are absolutely right! There are MANY Matheson's with the same names, in numerous Matheson families. I've listed, below, a summary of what I know to be accurate, so far, in my family history. I came from Sutherland Co, Dornoch but as you will see, some came from Torboll & some from other areas as well. John Matheson (b. abt. 1762, of Torboll, Dornoch, Stirling Scotland) married Marion Mackay (b. abt. 1766 of Torboll, Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland) married in 1787 (Torboll,Dornoch,Sutherland,Scotland). CHILDREN: Neil (b. 17 Jul 1788 my ggg graqndfather) Hugh (b. 21 Dec 1794) Catharine (b. 20 Mar 1799) George (b. 26 Jan 1804) Alexander (b. 25 May1806) All were born in Torboll,Dornoch etc., except George, born in Rogart, Sutherland Scotland. Next generation as follows: Neil Matheson married Elspet Matheson ( I think Matheson was her maiden name as well) on 13 Dec 1805 in Dornoch.. Elspet b. 1790 Scotland ( unable to find any other info, so far on this) CHILDREN: Donald (b. 4 Dec 1807 Cambusive, Dornoch- my gg grandfather),John (b. 25 Oct. 1812, Cambusive, Dornoch) Elspet ( b. 20 Jan 1815 ) all born in Cambusive .NEXT Donald married Christian Elizabeth Cameron 28 Jan 1834, Minginish, Bracadale, Inverness. This is where Im stumped. Ive been told they had a set of twins (Cathrine & John & John died in infancy, no birth dates) I cant find any record to show they had any children, so far, in Scotland. They had a son, Thomas once arriving over here, abt 1842. Christian died 5 years after they came to US & Im descended from Donalds 2nd marriage, over here. Have any idea where I can find records of Scotland from 1834 to 1842? Are their any emigration records in Scotland for that time period? I would also like to find info on Donald's siblings & see if I can find out where they ended up. Any & all info is greatly appreciated! THANKS, Sandy
