    3. Dear Maureen, There is a town called Penola in SE South Australia near Mt. Gambier which is where Mother Mary first began teaching The original School and the local church are set up as a museum to her life the trip back to Scotland to visit the McDonalds is mentioned there . My daughter is related to Mary McKillop's Aunt who married Alex Cameron of Penola. Alexander was my daughter's ggggrandfather's cousin ( through my ex -husband) Mary McKillop was there governess before she began the school. Quite a large section of the town is set up to show life in the days of the early settlers ( about 1860s I would guess) Portland in western Victoria (where many of the HIES ships came to) is another place with connections to Mary McKillop and her father is buried in Hamilton a bit further inland to Portland. There is a Mary McKillop trail in the area where you can drive to the places connected with her early days. This area is about 6 hrs from Adelaide or Melbourne if you were driving Regards Marilyn Cameron
