Thanks!! to the several who replied to my query about Caithness. I did know that Caithness was a shire, but what had puzzled me was why the IGI entry said marriage was in Inverness, Inverness. Unlike most of the documents I have received, the format of the several entries on this one was not consistent. Some individuals were identified by occupation, some by parish, some OBVIOUSLY (now!) by shire, and some not at all. On further cogitation I decided that the marriage must have taken place in Inverness, that Marjorie DAVIDSON must be from Inverness, and that Charles CAMERON had at some time moved to Inverness from Caithness. Still not sure these are the ggg grandparents I am seeking, but have found by checking out Brian Keddy's wonderful census site that Malcolm appears to be a not "usual" name in at least that area of Scotland. When I put Malcolm CAMERON into FamilySearch looking for birth in Inverness (1814-1824) I get only TWO entries. I have already received one 1819 (which fits with his age on the 1881 Census) and will send for the other. Still eager to find connections so, if .... Charles CAMERON from Caithness, married 4 Feb 1815 to Marjorie DAVIDSON from Inverness, with 2 children Jannet CAMERON born 21 Oct 1817 Malcolm CAMERON born 4 Dec 1819, married to Margaret MARSHALL 17 Dec 1847 Govan, Lanark, with 3 children Allan 28 Aug 1848 Govan (Partick), Lanark Mary 1853 Govan, Lanark Catherine 1859 Partick, Lanark ... makes any connections, I would be delighted to hear from you.
