Hi Gordon, In most state of Australia, these records are not on line, because of the privacy rules governing certificates from more recent times. If you know which state your ancestor may have died in it would help. However in Victoria, they have released the deaths index right up to 1980. I could have a look at those for you if you wish. Otherwise, you would need to write to the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages in each state, pay the required search fees ( not cheap) and hope that they come up with something.
