    3. Do not expect the naming patterns to be applied too rigidly in the past 100 years or so. In my own family, my grandmother was convinced that the name Roderick, the next on the list for a son, always brought bad luck in our family, so, when my uncle was born they called the dog Roderick and my uncle was christened Alexander.
