My thanks to Dave and George for their replies to my queries about "Loindichintnan", Connage and Auchernich/Auchernack/Achernack. Sorry I did not read my notes correctly, I said Connage and Auchernich were both in the parish of Abernethy & Kincardine, incorrect on my part, I misread what I was given, it was the bairn that was born in that parish. The mother was from Connage the father from Auchernich/Auchernack. My info. has the 2 places not far from one another. George: Is the Highland Medieval history of Connage on the web, I would like to read it? I did see Connage near Ardersier in a map on the web somewhere, got to find it again. As for "Loindichintnan" I was told, when they heard the name being said.that often these names were written (spelt) by the session clerk, hence the unusual spelling. Admittedly the person giving me the info. did say the spelling seemed peculiar. It came from OPR for Duthil, so you may be correct with "Lochan nan Cnapan". Dave you wrote: >>You would not mean Culduthl would you? Where the hospital was. in Inverness. dave<< I have no idea Dave, the info. I have is: "James and Grace twin children of James Macfarlane Loindichintnan (?) and of his wife Grace Robertson, born 24th March and bap April 1843. James Macfarlane and Grace Robertson both residing in Loindichintnan were married the 29th day of April 1841". IGI has the correct date and place of marriage as Duthil with Rothiemurchus, Inverness. I also had an email from Stuart on the Moray list and thiswas his reply. >>Achernack is 3 miles NE of Nethy Bridge, 2 miles due S of Grantown - Grid Ref 3027/8247. Connage is close to the old military road from Tomintoul to Grantown, 2 miles SE of the Spey bridge, Grid Ref - 3059/8232. Sorry I don't have a map of the Duthil area.<< Admittedly I am in the position where I canna pronounce Scottish place names, so at a disadvantaged to work out what they are and where they could possibly be. :-)) Many thanks for all the help.
