I am seeking information on the following family: Alexander McLEAN (son of Archibald McLEAN and Catherine McKENZIE) was born on 26 Dec 1837 at Stornoway, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland. He married Elizabeth HAMILTON (dau of Alexander HAMILTON and Janet FULLARTON) at the Established Church of Scotland, Blaremore, near Lamlash (Arran), parish of Kilbride, on 11 Feb 1861. Elizabeth was born c 1840 in Lamlash. Alexander McLEAN was employed as a Preventive Man. Elizabeth's occupation was given as Dressmaker. Children of Alexander McLEAN and Elizabeth HAMILTON were: Catherine (Kate) McLEAN b. 30 Oct 1861 at Lamlash, Kilbride, Scotland. Md. Archibald DICHMONT (son of George DICHMONT and Elizabeth (Betty) DUCKWORTH, both of Oswaldtwistle, Lancs, Eng) after 1881. In April 1892 Kate and Archie were living at 22 Albert Street, Oswaldtwistle with two children. By 1897 Kate and Archie had emigrated to Capetown, South Africa. Jessie McLEAN b. 19 Mar 1863 at Lamlash. Jessie Elizabeth McLEAN b. 6 May 1867 at Lamlash. Lily Hamilton McLEAN b. 3 Mar 1869 at Blaremore, near Lamlash, par Kilbride, Co Bute, Scotland. Md. William MENMUIR, son of Alexander MENMUIR and Jessie RAMSAY, on 26 Aug 1897 in Capetown, South Africa. William and Lily had three children born in Capetown, Alistair Hamilton, 1898; Lily Ramsay, 19 Nov 1900; Daisy (Maisie) 1903. On 28 March 1908 Lily McLEAN and her three children left Capetown for London and Largs where they stayed while William sailed for Australia. They joined him in Sydney, Australia two years later. Elizabeth McLEAN b. c1877 in Glen Urquhart, Inverness, Scotland. Lily McLean's birthday book has an entry for Lizzie MacLean on 9 September. Christina McLEAN b. c 1878 in Glen Urquhart, Inverness, Scotland. Lily McLean's birthday book has an entry for Tina MacLean on 19 December. On the 1881 census The family, with the exception of Jessie and Jessie Elizabeth,(it is possible that they had died) are at Kilmorack, Inverness, Scotland. Alexander's occupation is Inld Rev Preventative Man, Kate a Teacher and Lily a Scholar.
