Dear list, While updating my Emigrant index, I found an entire ship full of people from Skye - about 200 of them!! It was the "Ontario", which arrived in New South Wales in 1852. If you found someone on Skye in the 1851 census, then 'lost' them, they may have travelled on this ship! Have a look at the index at : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~maddenps/INVEM1.htm Cheers, Peter.
Hello Peter The passenger lists of all 29 ships of the HIES are already on the net at http://www.angelfire.com/ns/bkeddy/HIES/1.html which includes the Ontario. Greg Munro at http://www.acay.com.au/~gsm/Ontario1852.html also has the Ontario and at http://www.acay.com.au/~gsm/Bounty.html the Midlothian, the James Moran and the George Fyffe. There are "shiploads" of Inverness people on these so happy hunting.
