I received this on my Inverness-shire Surname Registry and thought to pass it on to the list - as it's much more than I need - and possibly someone can help her ??? Bryan Keddy Halifax, N.S. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- My name is Janet Drinnan (nee Macdonald) I am in the process of tracing my paternal family in Scotland. I have found that my ggrandfather , Donald MACDONALD was born in Parish of Kilmonivaig in Inverness-shire 1839. Mother was Catherine MACRAE and father Angus Macdonald. The spelling is McDonald. Somehow my father changed the spelling to Macdonald, and was very insistent my sister and I spelt it that way!!! Angus's father was Alexander McDonald born about 1776 . I am having trouble finding the ship my Ggrandparents came to New Zealand, as it was around 1863 and there was a "gold Rush" in Dunedin NZ at that time, and the passenger lists were not published, as there were so many. Would anyone be able to tell me if records were kept at the Scotland beginning of the journey??? My gGrandfather was working in Stirlingshire and married Elizabeth MacFarlane of Buchanan, Stirling in 1862 and they left soon after marriage. for New Zealand. I have not yet confirmed who Angus McDonald married, but think it was Jean MCBARNETT or possible Katherine Grant. All from the same parish in Inverness -shire. Donald had a sister Christy who married John Maclean. Am not sure of the other siblings??? My full name is Janet Drinnan, 24 Watford Street, Strowan Christchurch. My E-mail address is janet-d@clear.net.nz I am researching as far back in 18th Century as possible to present day. Perhaps there are some family out there now descended from my McDonald line? They were crofters I think. Could you tell me if they would be from the clan Donald of Randonald,? Regards Janet
