    3. Yes, she was m. to Sgt. Edwin Booth Gordon and he was stationed in Alipur. Family myth stated that Edwin was away on manouvers and returned to find his wife and 2 sons dead and everything burned. I have found that his wife's name was Annie (source: Edwin's army booklet) and that she died of cholera in India (her death reg.). I found that her last name was Kennedy (s: mar. reg.) So, family myth seems to be correct to some degree. Edwin fabricated his identity. He chose to tell people that he was b. Inverness and that is what his obit. says. I am wondering if this was as a tribute to Annie since there is no connection to Inverness in his history at all. He did pay tribute to Annie by naming the first daughter from his 2nd marriage Annie though this name does not fit the naming pattern which he followed re. his other children. I am hoping to find Annie's Kennedy line in either Inverness for the above reason or Glasgow (Edwin went there after retiring from military service). By the way, Edwin was really a Crudge from Bristol and has given me a merry chase in finding him. Sylvia

    3. Can you give us the actual death date for Annie? I think Alipur was in Calcutta - is it the name of a fort? It seems to have been the location of a major jail as well. 3. Sylvia, it was not uncommon to name the first daughter of a second marriage after the first wife. Seems weird to me, but I have found it quite common in Scotland and in Denmark. Sheila in Missouri
