Thanks Gail, I am hoping that there are some MacKinnon's from Barra in the history, as this is where Charles was believed to have come from. Any mention of a Charles MacKinnon entering Military Service around 1778 and eventually coming to Nova Scotia in Canada? Names that seem to repeat themselves are Malcolm,John,Donald,Alexander,Charles. I beleive that Charles was married to a Mary Chisholm as a Mary Chisholm and Charles Mackinnon signed a deed selling the first grant of 100 acres(granted in 1785 or so) to a Thomas Copeland in 1792. I think that he had a friend( Duncan Chisholm) who was also a soldier in the 82nd. We have wondered if Mary Chisholm was Duncan Chisholm's sister. We don't know if Charles was married in Scotland or in Nova Scotia. He has descendants in Canada and The United States. Any hints for searching in Scotland would be appreciated.
