    3. Sitting in my display case is a small ingot, embossed with : "Lochaber, July 1930". This was a souvenir of the first smelt of aluminium there. Aluminium needs a very high temperature for smelting, hence the smelter being where there was a cheap source of power: hydro-electric. Apre-pos of nothing: Napolean Bonaparte's son was given a rattle made of Aluminium... at that time it was so difficult to smelt that it was considered more valuable than Gold, Silver or any other metal.
