    1. [SCT-INV-L] BROWN/MILLER 1851 AND 1861 CENSUS

    3. I am not sure how difficult it is to search the 1851 and 1861 census but if anyone can assist would be grateful. 1851 - Alexander BROWNS parents and 2 children are recorded at the family home in Little Cairn Andrew, near Banff. Jane, Mary, Annie, John and Alexander (the latter may have been about 14/15 years old ) are not. We know they were all alive many years later - where were they on Census night? One suggestion is that Alexander BROWN and a 'cousin' Alexander MILLER have been lodging with a SHAW family in FARR, INV. Possibly both young men worked for a William SHAW. No info known on SHAW. The location DORES, INV. has also appeared in a letter held by me. Is anyone able to check the Census 1851 and 1861 for SHAW surname in FARR and DORES with possibility that Alexander BROWN and Alexander MILLER were working/lodging with the family. Any assistance would be appreciated. MILLER later went on to become a school teacher and Minister in the Free Church - eventually emigrating to Canada? BROWN emigrated to New Zealand in the early-mid 1860's Ken Woodgate Wellington New Zealand e-mail: ken.woodgate@xtra.co.nz
