    3. Over the next little while I am planning to post a number of enquiries that are based on the Will of my 3GGrandfather Hugh Maclean, who for some time was a Master of Equity in Spanishtown Jamaica. This posting is about family mentioned in the will. Future postings will be about other bequests and property. We know that Hugh and his partner Ann Bartlett (they were not married) had seven children - Alexander Falconer c1806, Malcolm c1808, Mary Upton c1810, Elizabeth Scoabeck c1812, Rebecca Williams 20 .9.1814, John Shand (My GGGrandfather) 14.6.1816, and Ann Bartlett 15.1.1819. Rebecca, John and Ann were all baptised on 6.7.1819 in Spanishtown. Ann Bartlett Maclean died 16 March 1845 Hugh Acknowledges all seven as his reputed children in his will which was dated 11 August 1838 and codicil dated 18 June 1842. John Shand came to Australia and I have tracked down most of his descendants however I have nothing on any of his siblings. Also mentioned in the will are: 1. Neil Maclean, surveyor of land in Inverness. Is Neil related to Hugh? Does any one out there know anything about Neil. 2. Christy Maclean was Hugh’s sister and was described as “otherwise McNeill, widow of Rory McNeill, in the Isle of Skye” . Hugh left Christy and also left ₤200.0.0 sterling to each of her lawful children on reaching the age of 21. 3. John Maclean of the Island of Skye was Hugh’s brother. Hugh left him ₤500 sterling with ₤200 to each of his lawful children on reaching the age of 21. 4. William MacCrummen was Hugh’s uncle. There is no bequest to William so I tentatively assume that he predeceased Hugh. There was, however, a bequest of ₤200 sterling to each of Williams lawful children to be paid within 12 months of Hugh’s death. I am assuming that these children were all over 21. They would have been the same generation as Hugh. So far I have not been able to find out anything more about Christy, Rory, John or William. Any ideas would be appreciated and I wonder if anyone out there can claim a connection to this family Wendy in hot & humid Brisbane, Qld
