Hi Maggie Its a possibility that your Margaret was a sister of my Angus. My 1st Angus was born about 1788 and married Janet Russell in May 1814. The Russell family were "employees" of the Earl of Moray, whose estates were Petty, Inverness-shire, Scotland. Or maybe Petty was on the estate? Anyway the children of Angus and Janet were born/baptized in Dayyeil/Petty, I have copies of some of their baptismal records indicate birth in Dalyeil and baptized in Petty. A Donald McIntosh is listed on one of the baptism records as a witness. He could have been the Grandfather (father to Angus) or could have been a brother to Angus. Using naming tradition 1st born male is named after the father's father (child's paternal grandfather) 1st born female is named after the mother's mother (child's maternal grandmother . . 2nd born male is named after the mother's father (child's maternal grandfather) 2nd born female named after the father's mother (child's paternal grandmother) An so on alternating back the generations. The children of Angus and Janet(Russell) Mcintosh were as follows: Janet, Donald, Isabella, John Margaret, Angus, James, Alexander. So that makes Donald and Margaret McIntosh the parents of Angus Going back to the baptismal records; the names John and James Russell also appear as witnesses. So that makes John and Janet Russell the parents of Janet. James Russell being a brother of John Russell. The Russell brothers are listed as Factors on old estate records So I guess Angus could have had a sister Margaret. The names, marriage and places dates fit All we have to do now is find some documentation to prove it. Even my great grandparents Angus and Janet (McLachlan) Mcintosh used a modification of the saem naming tradition. These children were all born in Canada. They turned the matrix over. Their children wer Archibald - after Janet's father, Angus - after Angus's father, James - after Janet's grandfather, Jeanette - after Angus's mother, Catherine - after Janet's mother, Donald - after Angus's grandfather, Margaret - after Angus's grandmother, and John - after Janet's grandfather.
