    1. MC/MAC DONALD'S & GRANTS OF 1775 GLENURQUHART
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MCDONALD, MACDONALD, GRANT Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TeC.2ACE/1427 Message Board Post: I have an interest in the Grant's of 1775Glenurquhart. I have the following on-line reference to my GGGG-GF John McDonald and his 2nd wife Margaret Grant: John McDonald was born at Glen Urquhart and belonged to the Glencoe McDonalds. At the time of the Glencoe Massacre, 1692, one of the McDonalds fled to Glen Urquhart and settled there. John McDonald was a grandson or great grandson of that man. He was about eight years in the Royal Highland Emigrant Regiment, and three of his sons fought with him in the Revolutionary War on the Loyalists' side. He was married twice. By his first wife he had Duncan, Alexander, Mary and Christy. By his second wife, Margaret Grant, he had James, Ewen, Ann and Ellen. (I have a birth certificate from Drumnadrochit on 1 July 1772 for the 2 girls, Ann & Helen) I am from the line of their youngest son Hugh (Ewen, Evan, Eoghan Mor). I believe Hugh married a Jane Grant in 1794 as the marriage was registered in Halifax and there is a gravestone in Bridgeville Nova Scotia with the matching dates. I have no other information on this Jane Grant's family. I also believe that Margaret Grant was a sister to Peter Grant of Glenurquhart. These families departed Glenurquhart abt. Aug 1775, sailing on the Ship Glasgow from Fort William on 3 Sept 1775. They are all mentioned in Dr William MacKay's 1893 book on Urquhart & Glenmoriston in the Appendix (Urquhart Settlement in Noav Scotia) Peter Grant of Glenurquhart settled on land adjacent to Margaret (Grant) Mc/MacDonald's 2 youngest sons, Hugh and James McDonald, and directly across the East River from John McDonald and Margaret Grant. http://www.canadiangenealogy.net/novascotia/pictou_county/east_river.htm If anyone has any information on Peter or Margaret Grant , or this Mc/MacDonald family, from 1775 Glenurquhart, I would appreciate hearing from them Regards, Ben MacDonald Glendale AZ
