I am also related to the MacDONELLs (McDonnells) of Glengarry but almost despair of finding hard facts.I corresponded with Julia in NZ 3 yrs ago & still feel sure there is a connection to be found one day. Does anyone know of Ewen MacDonell, 61st Regiment? He may hold the key. In 1857 my John McDonell (1804 -1862, Catholic) published a letter from the Clan Chief of Clanranald & Glengarry to this Ewen to "prove" his ancestry. John's "Nativeplace" was shown as Keanlochuanagen on immigration to Australia. He was shown as a Shepherd/Overseer. Later info said he was an Innkeeper at Keanlochuanagen, which is just outside Fort Augustus. He married Catherine Anne KENNEDY in Fort A. John's parents were John McDONELL (Shepherd) & Catherine KENNEDY while Ann's were Donald McDONALD (Shepherd) & Elizabeth. John's unmarried brother, Neil (Coachman) & sister, Anne immigrated with him & another brother, Donald arrived later. As you all say -the McDonell, MacDonald & Kennedy families were rife in this neck of the woods. Margaret ____________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
