I do not know if John was older or younger than James. These brothers joined the 82nd (Duke of Hamilton's Regiment) and went with that Regiment to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1779, subsequently fighting in the American Revolution. The brothers were granted land in Pictou Co, N.S. in 1783 and settled there. James obit describes him as "a native of Badenoch, Invernesshire". James McPherson's wife was named Isabel, last name unknown. I don't know if they were married in Scotland or Nova Scotia. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi JRM, I have McPherson's from Pictou area in my family and the names James and John are very prevalent. I do not have a lot of info about the early McPherson's. Given the Scottish naming patterns, there could very well be a connection. What I do have can be seen on my website (url below). Search McPherson.
