Alexander McLean, my wife's gggg-grandfather, born in Isle of Skye, entered Kings College, Aberdeen, 1758, graduated in 1762. Officers and Graduates of University & King's College, 1763 lists "Alexander Angus, Nat. V.D.M. de Alexander Maclean, Skiensis. Culsalmond." This listing footnoted with "Min., Tullynessle, Botriphnie." [need help in deciphering these words] According to references in the U.S., Alexander's father married twice and had over twenty children, most of them males, well educated. One brother, Donald, graduated from King's College in 1767. Another brother Francis was a general in the British army and commanded the British forces in the siege of Penobscot during our Revolutionary war.
