Dear Listers Some assistance would be appreciated. My g g g grandparents were John Cameron and Catherine Kennedy from Kilmonivaig (I know, surnames are not so unusual). In identifying which Cameron family in official records, place names were often used to identify the area from which the family came. John Cameron b. 1808, was a shepherd at Briananach. My Cameron family are recorded on the IGI by an LDS Church member as being from Mianacha or Manacha, Kilmonivaig, although the official GRO records only record Kilmonivaig. Mianacha or Briananach are not mentioned in the 1841 Invernesshire Census. Does anyone know of these place names or how to find out more - given where I live! Cheers Brian Logan Melbourne Australia
