My gg grandfather was a Duncan McCasline/McCausland who was born to James Mc Casline & Mary Robertson in Alvie, Inverness about 1850 and married my gg grandmother Mary Ann Gray in Apsley, Victoria, Australia in 1882. He died in 1943 in Ballarat, Victoria. I have not found Duncan's birth/baptism, but there appear to be siblings born to the same parents in Alvie, listed in the IGI under two different spellings: Margaret McAuslin1858 Donald McAustin1862 James McAustin1865 d 1866 Mary Bella McAuslin1867 James McAuslin 1869 The spelling of Duncan & his descendants surname in Australian records are McCasline,McCausland, McAsline,McCosline & McCaslin, so I think the 't' spelling is a mistranscription. I am wondering if anyone on this list has come across this family, as I get the feeling they weren't native to Inverness-shire. Is anyone able to look them up in the Inverness-shire Censuses from 1841 to 1881? It appears from my research in Australian records that only Duncan emigrated to Australia, so I have no idea what happened to his parents & siblings.
