I am gathering information about my family's origins in Scotland and since my maiden name was also Clunas I'm hoping to direct my enquiry to someone else in the Clunas family who might have knowledge of a connection to distant Canadian relatives. I'm looking for ancestors and/or descendants of my great-grandparents, Andrew Clunas and Catherine McPhail. who were married on February 15th, 1838 at Daviot and Dunlichity, Inverness. "In 1861 Mr. Clunas moved from Daviot to Strathdearn where he settled down as tenant of Glenmazeran Home Farm where he lived with his family till his death on the 16 of August 1890 at the ripe age of 81" [This quote taken from his obituary in the Northern Chronicle in 1890.] Andrew and Catherine had nine children: Marjory, b.May 9, 1839; Duncan, b.July 3, 1840; Angus, b.June 27, 1944; Elizabeth b.May 24, 1846; John b.April 11, 1848; Janet b.October 17, 1849; Andrew b.August 17, 1851; Catherine b.September 9, 1853 and Donald b.March 17, 1856. My grandfather was Andrew Clunas Jr, and he married Mary Grant December 5th, 1880 in the Free Church of Scotland in Cromdale, Inverness. My father was the youngest of their ten children and he was born in 1904 in Manitoba, Canada. Andrew and Mary Clunas had emigrated to Canada in 1901 with their children (although two daughters had emigrated a year or two previous to this) and eventually settled on homestead land in Glenbush, Saskatchewan in 1907.
