It is still free, but I dont think you can do text searches any more. http://stat-acc-scot.edina.ac.uk/sas/sas.asp?action=public& or http://edina.ac.uk//stat-acc-scot (choose- "for non-subscribers") or just put The Statistical Accounts of Scotland into google. You will have to identify the parish before you start owning to the lack of text searches. There is an online Gazetteer of Scotland but I usually start by typing GENUKI and the name of the place into google. Another tip is to type 'rootsweb' plus the name of the place, as this brings up past queries and you can soon find the right location.
