Rob MacLean's posting about ancestors who departed by ship from Ft. William made me wonder about the names of ships leaving Scotland. I never realized that any emigrant ships sailed from Ft. William, a logical port from someone from Skye. Is there a list anywhere of the names of ships that went from Scotland to the United States in the 1850s? What ports other than Ft. William might they have used? Unfortunately, the volume of immigrant ships landing in NY and Philadelphia is long and most of the passenger lists have not been transcribed, particularly list of passengers sailing from Scotland.
