Debbie, I don't have the information you are seeking, but I'm very interested in the name "JOHN MURRAY". I'm researching Hendersons, Nicolsons, Jacobs, and McKinnons on Skye. My ggg-grandmother's name was Sophia (M.S. NICOLSON) JACOBS who was born in Kilmuir on Skye about 1827. She was married to Thomas JACOBS who evidently was a mariner in the Royal Marines (possibly from England). They had one child that I know of named Ann JACOBS who married my g-grandfather John Henderson in Govan, Lanarkshire in 1872. To get back to my connection to your research. Sophia (Nicolson) JACOBS died on Wentworth Street in Portree on 9-10-1886. According to her death record, her son John MURRAY was present at and registered the death. We don't have any MURRAYS in our family (that we know of) so I'm assuming this is a child by a relationship we don't know of yet. I also found on the 1881 census of Portree, a John MURRAY (presumably the same one), unmarried, age 20, born in Glasgow living with the Henderson family at 17 Wentworth Street in Portree. The whole family consists of: John Henderson, 37 Ann (Jacobs) Henderson 31 Joan (Johanna Jacobs) Henderson, 13 (daughter of Ann by a previous relationship) Sophia Henderson, 6 Donald Henderson, 4 Thomas Henderson, 18 mos. Sophia Jacobs, widow, 42 (mother-in-law) John Murray, unmarried, 20 (brother-in-law) There seems to have been a lot of hanky-panky going on in this family and I haven't straightened it all out yet, but if my John Murray has any connection with your John Murray, I sure would like to know.
