Hello Everyone This information supplied by Colin Hinson (Yorksgen) One of the problems with the latest viruses is that whilst written in Visual Basic Script, it is not obvious to everyone that the file has a ".vbs" extension, as the file is named something like "XXXXXXLOVEYOU.jpg.vbs". By default, Windows has the "hide file extensions for known file types" enabled, ie. the known file type extensions are *not* displayed. This gives the appearance of the above file name to be "XXXXXXLOVEYOU.jpg", and a .jpg file would not be a danger, as opening it would simply display it and not execute it. In order to avoid this problem you need to set up the options in Windows Explorer or My Computer to turn the extensions on, and while you're there, turn the other details on too: In Windows Explorer or My Computer, go to "View", then "Folder options", then click on the "View" tab, and you are presented with a window which says at the top "Files and Folders". In this window, it is important that under "Hidden files" the "Show all files" button is selected, and that the "Hide file names for known file types" is *not ticked*. I personally have the "Allow all uppercase names" ticked, as this helps with case sensitive stuff such as web sites. Select the remaining items as you want them to be. In theory and Windows allowing, you should now be able to see all file names complete. If you receive an attachment which contains a ".vbs" file then delete it immediately. Best regards Andrew Riding
