Hi Debbie, 1880 comes under 'Civil Registration' for Scotland not parish records. If John is 4 months old he was likely born Nov-Dec. 1880. Salt Lake doesn't have the birth, marr. death films for 1880. Just 1855 to 75 + 1881 and 1891. You would have to get someone to look up the birth in Edinburgh. You might try for a sibling born abt. 1875 (if there was one) or another birth in 1881 (not likely) or 1891, to find his parents names and place of marriage. Do you have the parents marriage cert? It would be best to go to your Latter Day Saints Fam. Hist. centre to see if they can help you. Sometimes they have researchers names on file who will look up events at Edin. for a fee. regards.
