    1. McLeans in Alvie Invernesshire early 1700's
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McLean, MacLean, Gordon, McDonald, McBain, Fraser Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/mbexec/msg/5538/TeC.2ACE/1401 Message Board Post: I've traced my McLean line back to Inverness-shire. Angus McLean was born 1795 in Alvie. He married Elizabeth Gordon in Inveravon, Banffshire, in 1823. I have no record of his death. His father was James McLean born 1755 in Alvie. His mother was Mary McDonald - no further details. James's father was Alexander "Alexr" McLean, born 1720 in Alvie. His mother was Elspet McBain, no further details. Alexander's parents were John McLean and Margaret Fraser but I can find nothing about them. My trail has dried up. Do these names and dates match with anybody else on the List? Does anybody have any thoughts or knowledge of McLeans in Inverness-shire at that time? It's been suggested to me that these McLeans could have been MacLeans of Dochggarroch, a mainland branch which became part of the Clan Chattan Confederacy, but at this stage that's pure speculation.
