From a Hebrides 'expert', I have a long history of some of the MacKays going back to the early 1657. I had made an error in my previous posting. It should have said armourers to the Campbells of Breadalbane rather than Camerons.. Miles of the 1841 census of Benbecula was a blind, retired soldier believed to be from a family that had settled on North Uist after moving from Islay to Skye. In my search, while looking for a Malcolm, who would have been about 11 in 1841 I have one 11 s/o Angus & Christy at Snizort, Skye and one 12, s/o Donald & Mary on South Uist. Donald was shown to be s/o Miles. Since most of the MacKays came from further north on the Sutherland mainland, movements following the battle of Culloden may hae been scattered. Good luck in your search Andy
