Where I said "the 'Queen's Own Highlanders; Seaforths and Camerons' - the 72nd (Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders), 78th (Ross-shire Buffs) and 79th (Cameron Highlanders) Regiments of Foot" I should probably have said "the 72nd (Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders), 78th (Ross-shire Buffs) and 79th (Cameron Highlanders) Regiments of Foot later to become the 'Queen's Own Highlanders; Seaforths and Camerons" Of course the Camerons were based at Cameron Barracks, in Inverness, but not until 1886. The Inverness Courier of 15 June 1886 details the arrival of the 1st Battalion, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, from Fort George, at Ardesier, to occupy the new Barracks. The 79th (The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders) Regiment of Foot, was raised on 17th Aug 1793 and became the The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders on 1st July 1881. The Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs, The Duke of Albany's), formed on 1st July 1881, out of the 72nd (Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders) and the 78th (Ross-shire Buffs), were in turn amalgamated with the Queens' Own Cameron Highlanders on 7th Feb 1961 to form the Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons). Hope this helps. As you can see the mergers of the Scottish Regiments are not a new thing. However, I too think that "dreadful Blair man " has gone too far.
