Hi Guys , Need some Ideas and thoughts of tracing my William Fraser of Inverness I have two comfirmed sightings of him 1st from his sons birth certificate 2nd from his sons marriage cirtificate now the time frame i'm talking about is, his son Hugh was born 1878 in muirtown near Inverness and married in 1902 in Glasgow from his sons birth cert, William is recorded as a wine merchents porter and living at 31 Grant street Inverness from his sons marriage cert only as a tram bus driver (i guess in Glasgow) now I've used Scotland people to try and trace him there seems to be no 31 Grant street Inverness in the 1881 census and and just far to many William Frasers in the 1881 to 1901 census to go though with no other way of identifing him from all ther other William Frasers William's partner in the birth of Hugh is a Martha Martin, who (i think) i can trace so my thought is they (William and Martha) never married , (i've also looked for a marriage cert for them),hugh is recored on his birth Cert as illegitimate and Martha is recored as married to William Fraser on Hugh's marriage cert (but i feel Hugh was coving up the fact he was illegitimate) Hugh , well i cant trace him in any of the census as yet even though I've looked. so where to next ????? how can i find him , now bear in mind I'm in New Zealand and tis a bit hard to just pop over and look :) though i wouldn't mind , tis my life long dream to go home to my father birth county Kind Regards Steve Fraser
Maybe not. I had a quick look to see if there were electric or cable trams in Inverness and failed to find any reference - but maybe William drove a horse drawn tram. It might be worth contacting the Inverness museum to see if they can throw any light on these possibilities. There is, but the people living there are HASSON (on the index). Judy On 12 Oct 2005, at 05:46, paula_wells wrote: > there seems to be no 31 Grant street Inverness in the 1881 census
Hi Paula I am also hunting a William Fraser ( with same frustration) around Inverness area around same time. On occasions, and after one too many wines, have gone on a spending spree on Scotlandspeople ( how they must love me X ) and because of the blitz plan effect I have a few B/M/D certs for Willaim Frasers which aren't mine. Will have another look through, and can send them to you and see if anything is helpful, if only for elimination purposes. I am sure John Smiths in England have same problem...
