This tidbit regarding the QOCH was kindly sent to me a while back from Ian McKenzie on this list. Sherry The 10th Militia Battalion eventually became the 3rd Battalion, The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. According to the Historical Records of the Cameron Highlanders, Volume VII, Appendix 2, The battalion started out as the Inverness, Banff, Elgin and Nairn Militia Battalion, raised 1 November 1802. In March 1804 it was redesignated the 10th Militia Battalion (the Inverness Militia). It was redesignated the 76th ( Inverness, Banff, Elgin and Nairn) Militia in 1833. It was redesignated 76th Highland Light Infantry Militia in 1855. It became the 2nd(Militia) battalion of the QOCH on 1 July 1881, and was renumbered the 3rd (Militia) battalion on 1 April 1897. Redesignated 3rd (Special Reserve) Battalion on 27 February 1908. It was absorbed into the 2nd Battalion in July 1919 and disbanded 30 April 1953.
