    1. [SCT-INV] Norman McLeod b.ca 1760
    2. Robert Wallace
    3. By way of introduction, I'm new to the list. I have what I believe to be an accurate picture of my wife's McLeod line in Gallia Co., Ohio, USA, from about 1800 on to the present, but only speculation before that. Family tradition is that Norman McLeod came from the Isle of Skye to the Sussex Co. Virginia. Norman McLeod was the first in America in my wife's line. I am aware that Norman is to McLeod like Joe or John is to the Smith line and William to my Wallace line so I know I'm searchng for the proverbial needle in a haystack as usual. What I have is strictly oral history on Normal and his arrival in America. I'm estimating his date of birth about 1760 on the time of the American Revolution and that he would have probably been 16 or older at the time he left Scotland. The Norman for whom I'm searching supposedly came to Sussex County on the British transport Oxford - which was transporting convicts - with two brothers, William and Aneas around the end of Revolutionary War. I've never seen the name Aneas other than from one of my wife's grandmother's first cousins Halsey McLeod of Gallia County Ohio, who shared what little information he had learned about the family history from his parents and my wife's great grandmother, Irena Lucinda McLeod Jones. The British transport Oxford was captured during transit, and the > prisoners were dispersed to various counties on reaching Virginia. Whether they volunteered or were drafted into service is unknown. On > reaching America, the brothers had been separated by being assigned to militia companies in different counties and never saw one another again except once on a battle field - which battlefield I don't know. There supposedly was a Norman and bothers named above, but I have seen no list of passengers on the Oxford nor a list of prisoners. This Norman is strongly believed to be the elder Norman in my wife's family. Circumstantial evidence points to that being the case. This Norman married Mary Ann Humphries of Virginia and the line propagated from there on to my wife's line in Ohio. Norman Senior's son Norman born about 1792 married Irena Gates. Their son Robert Burns McLeod born 8 April 1839 married Lucinda Waddell in Gallia County Ohio. Robert and Lucinda's son Emmet was Halsey McLeod's father. Robert and Lucinda's daughter Irena Lucinda was my wife's great grandmother. My wife is Lucinda Irena. Any clues I might follow to trace Norman's line backward from his arrival in Virginia would be greatly appreciated. Bob Wallace Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
