    1. [SCT-INV] New Lister McCLOUD/McCLEOD Problem!
    2. Sue Dodd
    3. Hello, I have been looking in on this List with interest, now hoping for guidance from the experts. My x2 Grt.Grandfather was a William McCLOUD who was a seaman perhaps even a captain.I have no knowledge of where he was born it could have been somewhere in Scotland or in Ireland. His daughter Julia was born in Co.Wexford circa 1848 she married in a Catholic Church near Cahore Co,Wex. in 1878 William was listed as a seaman on her marriage cert. There was also mention of a Richard McCLOUD in August 1880 he was my Nanna's godfather,an uncle probably. Oral tradition would have a link to Scotland, aunts thought that it was Julia who came over to Ireland but the link has to be further back.I haven't been able to locate the birth of Julia in Co.Wex. as yet, hoping for clues when I do. I have found mention of McCLOUD seamen in 1861 their place of birth being Skerries to the north of Dublin.Again in the same from area a McCLOUD in America stating that his ancestors had settled in Ireland following the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie,'he put into port ,liked it and stayed',obviously wouldn't I like 'the cap to fit',but proof is all. Would I be right in assuming that the family started out as McCLEOD and because they ended up in Ireland anglicised it to McCLOUD? Are there any particular areas that I should begin my searching in,given that they are Catholic? Any ideas, advice really appreciated. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks. Suzanne Dodd
