I too have these names in North Carolina. My MacLeod family married McInnis lines, McGilvary lines and McDonald lines. I have information that I've received from others, but always get very confused by the same families marrying each other when I try to do this research myself. Do you have any information regarding a Murdock McLeod b 1755-1774 in Inverness who married Christian McSwain? It does not appear that my particular branch was in America until after 1790.
