    3. Try contacting the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Before the website you could just ring 'em up, now I believe it takes a while to get an answer, but they may have more info in their files. I think there is also a CD Soldiers who died in the Great War, but I dont have a copy. The local newspaper may well have carried a report, sometimes there were quite lengthy pieces on individuals. The family may well have inserted a death notice. Once you have identified the newspaper it is worth phoning the local library as they may have it on film. A brief lookup for a specified date is often provided free of charge. Remember it may be a weekly paper, so if someone died on a Wednesday it might just have made the Friday edition (for example) but is more likely to be in the next week. If you can get the train to Edinburgh then check www.nls.uk. They may have copies of the newspaper. If you intend to visit the library phone before hand as it may not be available on site and it is frustrating to ask for something that you can't get until the next day. You will also need a readers ticket so find out what id etc you need to bring. Hope this helps.
