Seeking desparately, on behalf of American cousins, to trace the following who were said to have been born in Scotland: Alexander GEDDIE stated father of: James Donald (or Daniel - apparently either translation from the Gaelic is acceptable) GEDDIE born c. 1755 and his wife: Catherine (Cathrin etc) (and/or) Isabella McPHAIL (or similar sounding variation - eg McFail) The latter two travelled to the Cape Fear, North Carolina, according to various books, on the same ship in 1772 and married in North Carolina some time before: "Jan 4, 1795 James GEDIE (note spelling) and spouse Cathrine (note spelling) Mcphaile - son baptzd Dugald" and "James Gadie and Cathrin Macphaile" had a daughter baptized named Sarah Apr 9 1797. They were also said to have been accompanied by Catherine/Isabella's brothers Dugald and Daniel McPhail Grateful for any traces on these people or similar names. The various sources suggest that they were born in various places - Argyll, Ross and Cromarty, Jura Islay, Fife, Moray or surrounding districts. But none of the sources point to confirmed places or dates of birth and some, like the works listed below, are almost certainly written on hearsay. Unfortunately they do not give a clue as to which ship was involved: Source Name : DOBSON, DAVID. Scots on the Chesapeake, 1607-1830. Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1992 and WHYTE, DONALD.
