CAN ALL OF YOU OUT THERE TELL ME WHAT NOVA SCOTIA MEANS, WHO NAMED IT, AND WHEN ???? PALMER FRASER DONALD THOMPSON Finally a question that I can definately answer!!!! I'll try to keep it brief - Nova Scotia means - New Scotland - it was named by Sir William Alexander in the very early 1600's (about 1625)......it was previously named "Acadia" which had been tossed from France to England to Boston then back to France in 1667 and captured again by New England in 1690, restored to France, captured again by the English in 1710 and this time it was kept.....although there had been many battles since for the control between the English, French and the original inhabitants - the MicMac Indians!!! Hope this is helpful! Bryan Keddy Halifax, N.S.
