Surnames: CLARK/FRASER/DUNCAN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TeC.2ACE/1389 Message Board Post: Searching for descendants of Clark family from Inverness. Lineage:- Donald Clark (1706) born Dingwall Married Jean Fraser (1710) born Kirktown and was a Farmer/Crofter. Their children were - John 1739, Helen 1741, Margaret 1744, Mary 1749, Janet 1751, William 1755 and Donald 1760. I know that John Clark married Katherine Duncan (from Urquhart) Jan 1779 in Inverness, and had children - Rev John Clark 1781, Donald 1779, Katherine 1785 all in Inverness. From employing a local researcher in Edinburgh, by chance she advised me that the family details were familiar as an English researcher had contacted her to do local searches. A million to one coincidence!!This was connected to a Donald Clark, a cousin of Rev John Clark. (He was my 4th Great grandfather). However this was some time ago and the english researcher has not replied to any letters so they have possibly moved house. If anyone thinks they have these Clarks in their family tree please contact me. My line moved to London from Inverness in 1867. Thanks

Listers: Here's a challenge: I am looking for the MARRIAGE RECORDS of these people: 1. JOHN MACKENZIE ("butcher in Kilcoy") and ISOBEL STEWART and their son: 2. WILLIAM MACKENZIE (b. 1 APR 1770) and FLORA MACMILLAN According to the OPR (Office of Public Records) in Urray, Scotland, " William was born to John McKenzie and Isobel Stewart in Balnain. He was their third child and was baptized on 2 April 1770 in the presence of the Congregation." Any help gratefully appreciated. Excuse my ignorance. I googled BALNAIN, KILCOY, URRAY and KILLEARNAN but did not find much information about these places. Will someone help me with the geography, location and significance of these places in the late 1700s? These places show up in my family research for MACKENZIE and MACKINTOSH. Thanks for any help! Hi Shirley Could be worth your while going to the 'edina' site where they have the statistical accounts for Scotland (google will find this) as the first Statistical Account was made around your dates. The ministers often noted how many people of non Church of Scotland allegiance were in their parish. If you are lucky it will say the number of RC families and that could be very useful info. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TeC.2ACE/1336.2 Message Board Post: Diane, I assume your question relates to the family of Rev. James Russell (1761-1844) & Isabella Fraser (1781-1853). Unfortunately, the five names extracted from the IGI by Lorna were children born to Rev. Alexander Fraser, minister of Inverness & Isabel Munro. Rev. James Russell, minister of Gairloch (1802), married, 11 Jan 1811, Isabella Munro Fraser, daughter of Alexander Fraser of Bught, shipowner, Inverness, by his wife Annabella Munro. For a story about this Fraser family, see Chasing Ancestors at www.electricscotland.com/canada/fraser/chasing_ancestors.htm Children of Rev. James Russell & Isabella Fraser: Annabella Russell (1811-1854) married 11 Aug 1830 Col. Roderick Matheson (1792-1873) as his second wife. Col. Matheson, 1st Regiment, Lanark Militia, married first Mary Fraser Robertson. Eliza Jean Russell (1813-1886) married 28 Nov 1832 Alexander Allan, Evanton. Rev. Alexander Russell, of Kilmodan (1814-1892) married 2 July 1845 Madeline Rose Munro (1815-1899), d/o Donald Munro, excise officer, Skye. Jessie Russell (1816-1883) married 2 Aug 1834 Rev. Donald Macrae, of Poolewe (1801-1868). James Russell (1818-1854) – drowned in Hamilton, Ontario. John Russell (1820-1850) Inverness Chapel Yard #1824 {Curved + shoulders, eroding} John F Russell, 3rd son of the late Revd James Russell of Gairloch, born 23rd November 1820, died 3rd November 1850. In memory of his piety & affection his afflicted mother has placed this stone. William Fraser Russell (1822-1897). It is very tempting to jump to conclusions by relying only on the IGI records, without checking the actual entries in parish records, so I trust the above will be useful to others researching this family. Reading recent posts, is somebody doing marriage lookups? If so, I am looking for the marriage of Donald Kennedy and Ann Grant, probably around the year 1790. I think they were from Urquhart - they came to Australia in 1792 with no children. Sorry I do not have any more information except that they were of the Roman Catholic faith. Would be grateful for a lookup if this is possible. Thank you Shirley in Sydney
