Yes, I am on the India and the India-British-Raj lists. It was from the India list that I learned of the Indian Cemeteries link to Bhawanipur Military cemetery. However, the on-line info. from that link pertained to veterans of the 2 WWs. Annie died 1897. Thanks for the thought. Happy New Year to all from another 'down under' lister. Boy Shirley, you must be in a 'cool spot' - it's just reached 43 degrees out the back od my house ;-) I'm REALLY glad my McLeans didn't stay in Taransay though, it's a maximum 7 degrees and raining there today! It strikes me as very peculiar that we're all over the shop, all having the New Year come in many hours apart, it's boiling here and freezing there, and we all started in the same place! Thank you for this information and advice. I have filed this Kennedy birth information. I did go into an online India Office site that offered searching of the records and found that each search translated into about $100.00 Can. Before I go back to this site, I feel that I must have more information to go on. At this point I do not have even an exact birth date, exact birth place or the name of her birth mother. It was my hope in joining the List to find some Kennedy researcher who recognizes Annie Kennedy and her death in India as being a part of his/her family tree. I have not finished with the LDS records. If I can find the 2 boys, presumably b. in India, their names might offer a clue as to Annie's roots. Not much to go on yet and I do value any in-put. Yes, I have looked at Scotlandspeople and realized that without Annie's mother's name beforehand and without an exact birthdate it would going to be very difficult to determine whether I had the correct Annie. No, Annie's mother's name does not appear on Annie's marriage registration. Thank you very much for this information Jane. Yes I will file everything that I can find on Scots born Donald Kennedys who had a daughter Annie b. circa 1857. Someday perhaps it will filter down to the correct one. Again, thank you for your interest and efforts. Sylvia Sylvia, I couldn't find a Donald Kennedy in the Chapel Yard monumental inscriptions, but as it may be a good idea to collect all references to a Donald Kennedy, am copying this out from Inverness East district by Alastair Beattie and Margaret Beattie: A. Sylvia, There is an Anne Kennedy or Davidson b. 10 July 1859 Kingussie & Insch, Inverness. Father Donald Kennedy, mother Elizabeth Davidson. When an entry has two last names, it usually indicates that the parents were not married. Have you tried writing to the India Office Library, Orbit House, 197 Blackfriars Road, London SE1. They hold mountains of records concerning India/Pakistan/Bangladesh. I understand these include death records. They might be worth a try. I am reaching the proverbial brick wall with my Christina (Christian) Cameron - 1891 census of Rosemarkie R&C stated that she was 48 -i.e born c 1843 in Kilmonaraic _ perhaps they mean Kilmonivaig, Inverness. From her marriage cert her parents were Charles Cameron & Margaret MacDonald. Does anyone have a connection or census records of 1851 to look up. Many thanks, Wendy - Perth Aus
Sylvia, Have a look at the Scotlandspeople website. In the 1861 census I found two entries which just might be worth looking at. In Shieldaig, Ross& Cromarty there is a Donald Kennedy aged 38 and Ann Kennedy age 6 (doesn't quite match your 1857 birth) with the same GROS reference so probably/possibly the same address. Also in Tyree, Argyll there is a Donald age 37 and Mary Ann age 6. I know they don't quite match all the criteria but might be worth a look. Did you get her mother's name from the marriage cert? I found Annie in the 1881 census under the name Kinnlay (an error) living on Radnor St. in Manchester in the household of Elizabeth Hall. I got this address from her marriage reg. and the name Elizabeth Hall confirmed that I had the correct person. Elizabeth Hall was a witness at Annie's wedding which occurred later in the same year. Annie appears to have been a dressmaker. No sign of her Scottish Kennedy family however. I sent a request to a link for the Bhawanipur cemetery but this cemetery link has records only for veterans of the 2 world wars.
